How to get your eBook working
Just look down the page for the reading machine you're using. If you have any problems, send me an email and I'll be happy to help. (It's chris at christophershevlin dot com.)
iPad or iPhone
Any of the links in the email should work for you. It depends which app you'd prefer to use. If you have the free Kindle app, click the Kindle link and select ‘Open in Kindle’. Or you could click the iBooks link and choose ‘Open in iBooks’. There are lots of other free apps that will let you read ePub and PDF files.
Kobo
You’ll need to use a computer to download the file (the one that ends ‘.epub’).
- Plug the Kobo into your computer with the USB cable.
- The Kobo will ask you if you want to ‘keep reading’ or ‘manage library’. Choose ‘manage library’.
- Now go to your computer. The Kobo will be in ‘Computer’ in Windows or on the desktop on a Mac.
- Copy the file you downloaded and paste it into the Kobo’s folder.
- When you unplug the USB cable, the chapters should be in your Kobo’s library under ‘ebooks’.
Nook
You’ll need to use a computer to download the file (the one that ends ‘.epub’).
- Plug the Nook into your computer with the USB cable. It’ll appear in ‘Computer’ in Windows or on the desktop on a Mac.
- Copy the file you downloaded and paste it into the Nook’s folder.
Kindle
You’ll need to use a computer to download the file (the one that ends ‘.mobi’). Once you’ve done that there are two ways of moving the file onto your Kindle.
By email
You can email the file to your Kindle. If you don’t know your Kindle’s email address, go to amazon.com/myk. Look up your Kindle from the list in ‘My Devices’.
If you haven’t already, you’ll need to tell it to accept emails from your address. In the same site, go to ‘Settings’ and scroll down to ‘approved personal document e-mail list’. Then click ‘Add a new approved e-mail address’, and add the one you want to send the book from.
Once you’ve sent the book, go to the library on your Kindle and press ‘Sync’. The deleted scenes might take a minute to appear.
By USB cable
Plug the Kindle into your computer with the USB cable. It’ll appear in ‘Computer’ in Windows or on the desktop on a Mac. Copy the file you downloaded (it should end ‘.mobi’) and paste it into the Kindle’s folder, which will be called either ‘Books’, ‘Documents’ or ‘Internal documents’.
